The “EnTre2 Plan” project, initiated in 2018, aims to provide a new itinerary with a language of differential value to describe the Intangible Cultural Heritage of popular Serrano Embroidery in the Sierra de Francia in Salamanca.
Through different processes of research, dissemination, safeguarding, immersion and cultural innovation, the Plan implements an action strategy based on the acknowledgement and recognition of a singular Intangible Cultural Heritage of the territory, by contributing to a social, cultural and economic benefit to the local communities. It also facilitates the integration and opening up of new educational, employment and development possibilities, from the cultural identity of Serrano Embroidery as a “guiding thread” in the new era of Culture of Cooperation in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.
This Public-Private Cooperation Project, conceived by the Eco-Cultural Design and Innovation Laboratory of the Red Arrayán Association, formulated together with representatives of the City Council of Mogarraz and developed through the cooperation with other public and private entities, received the 1st Fuentes Claras Prize of Castile and León for innovation in small municipalities of the region.
Following UNESCO’s recommendations, the Plan is articulated in two distinct and complementary lines that advance the strategy for the acknowledgement and recognition of this heritage:
The SAFEGUARDING strategy, which is focused mainly on the study, dissemination and continuity of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serrano Embroidery in the local communities and beyond, promotes, in addition to the processes of research, digitalization, exhibition and organization of learning workshops, the application for the declaration of an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) to the Regional Government of Castile and León, which initiated discussions with Spain’s Ministry of Culture to prepare the application to UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage element.
The INNOVATION strategy, focused on easing socio-cultural transformations based on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serrano Embroidery, as well as reinforcing the processes of acknowledgement and safeguarding of knowledge, is generating innovative proposals in accordance with its rich iconographic universe that facilitate a social and economic boost for designers, artisan workshops, artists and professionals of the new cultural and creative industries within the territory in keeping with the New European Bauhaus and the creative economy.
